  3. Objective The objective is to make one coach car per train fully accessible for: • Persons with mobility problems, e.g. using wheelchairs • Person who are blind and are traveling with a service animal

  4. Accessible features • 810 mm wide train access door and path to washroom, seat, and wheelchair travel location • Fully accessible washroom for a person in a wheelchair to transfer alone or with an attendant to the toilet • All controls according to accessibility standards and principles • Two places per car for persons who are blind and travel with a service animal • Wheelchair position with a tie down and an adjustable table to have meals served

  5. Access door and path Top view • All doors and path ways are 810 mm wide

  6. Toilet with grab bars • Pivoting grab bars at each side of toilet • Controls within reach from toilet

  7. Place for service animal • Place for one service animal under facing seat row. Facing seat row is on pedestal

  8. Status • Accessibility features have been approved by the Canadian Transportation Agency who requires compliance from federally regulated transportation carriers. • VIA Rail is presently in the process of engineering and gearing up for production in 2010
