  2. What is Disk Defragmenter • Disk fragmentation slows the performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk as a file is opened (to piece it back together). Disk Defragmenter (called Defrag by users) is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer’s hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. Files are then stored neatly end to end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the computer disk speeds up.

  3. When to run Disk Defragmenter • Run Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals ( weekly is best). • Other times to run Defragmenter • You add a large number of files. • Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less. • You install new programs or a new version of the Windows operating system.

  4. HOW TO DEFRAG YOUR COMPUTER

  5. Step 1 • Click Start

  6. Step 2 • Click All Programs

  7. Step 3 • Click Accessories

  8. Setp 4 • Click System Tools

  9. Step 5 • Click Disk Defragmenter

  10. Step 6 • Click Disk Defragment

  11. Step 7 • This screen will open up let run until complete

  12. Step 8 • Click Close • Click File • Click Exit
