  2. What do you know about percent? • It’s another way of representing a fraction. • Move the decimal to the right 2 times. • Can be put over 100. • What if we could estimate? Can you estimate??

  3. If you can find 10% then you can estimate any percent! If 10% of $25 is $2.50 then 20% of $25 is $5.00 and 30% of $25 is $7.50 can you tell me what 5% is ??? 40%??? What is our rule for finding 10% of a number? Move the decimal 1 place value to the LEFT!!!!

  4. Lets try to estimate… Kayla bought a DVD that was priced at $22.50, she had a 20% off coupon. What is the discounted price of the DVD?

  5. Pedro bought a pair of socks at 20% off. If Pedro’s discount $8 on his socks, how much were the socks at full price? 10% Rule

  6. James wants to buy a new pair of Jordans. His dad said he will pay for 25% of the shoes if James can pay the rest. How much will James have to pay if the shoes are $125? 10% Rule

  7. How much water can a 7.4 oz piece of chalk absorb if it absorbs 35% of its weight? 10% Rule

  8. Elijah walks 2 miles to school. If Bailey's walk is 80% of the length of Elijah's walk, find the length of Bailey's walk. 10% Rule

  9. Another way to solve percents is to create a proportion. In a survey at Forest Park Junior High, 60% favored Skittles over Starburst. If 450 student favored Skittles, how many total students were surveyed? Remember to label your parts and your wholes. Part over whole
