Biography Zuccarrelli is an Argentinian inventor Best known for creating ‘Holophonics’ in 1980 while studying at Politecino di Milano University His ideas have been adopted by film makers and musicians, most notably Pink Floyd, who attempted to use holophonics in their 1983 album, The Final Cut.
Holophonics: an Overview • Holophonics is a binaural recording system created by Zuccarelli that is based on the claim that the human auditory system acts as an interferometer • Binaural: A recording technique which uses two microphones to create the intention of 3d stereo sound. Also known as dummy head recording. • Interferometer: A term used to describe various techniques in which waves are superimposed to obtain information, i.e
How the ear interacts with sound • Hugo’s robotic microphone ‘Ringo’ emits a high pitched whistle, or ringing sound just like the human ear does. • Hugo discovered that the ringing in your ear is there because it helps you to localize sound. • Its essential for localization, but it is also essential that the ringing is subjective, or else it would be maddening. • You may have noticed a ringing in your ears after leaving a loud environment and entering a quiet one. More aggressive ringing is needed for the ear to localize sound in noisy environments, and takes a while to adjust to its surroundings.

Suggesting that the ear acts as an interferometer, giving off a wave length of its own which interact with noise. He also highlights how ancestral humans would probably not have been able survive in ancient environments by locating sound with both ears • 3:14
