Supervision is primarily carried out to assess the quality and / or performance. It also aims to identify the strong and weak areas so as to facilitate their effective functioning. NCF 2005 says that it is a process that enables and provides constructive feedback in relation to the teaching and learning process with in specific classroom contexts.

ROLE OF THE HM AS A SUPERVISOR EDUCATIONAL LEADER- Discusses and leads sound pedagogical practices FACILITATOR- facilitates to optimise the strengths of the Teacher GUIDE- shows the direction for progress and improvement EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR- uses appropriate means of dialogue and conversation MEDIATOR- helps establish collaboration between teachers to promote progress and Quality
HOW TO SUPERVISE To begin with: Set in pre-observation mechanisms- discuss the class with the teacher before and after the class Note specific ,constructive remarks, focussing on the professional strengths of the teacher Facilitate through multiple means the skills to be developed in the teacher Write specific remarks- not just “YES” / “NO”
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN CLASS SUPERVISION Whether is teacher is clear about what is to be taught in the thirty minutes begins with prior knowledge of the students and connects it to the daily life Involves all children through Group Work facilitated by COST EFFECTIVE TLMs Uses BlackBoard and other aids Summarizes the learning points in a Lesson SKILLS OF A TEACHER Communicates effectively is child friendly and shows good rapport and facilitates peer interactions Maintains necessary documentation

SCHOOL INTERNSHIP ZIET MYSORE IS CONDUCTING A 6 MONTH SPECIAL IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR PRTs WITH B.Ed qualification who have joined as PRTs w.e.f Sept. 2001 Training Period July – December Modes- Distance and PCP- personal Contact programme Distance Mode will have weekly online assignments and 3 PCPs will be held at ZIET The trainees are to be monitored in the School in all aspects and evidence of their work compiled and sent to ZIETs by the HMs. A Monitoring tool will be sent with instructions for facilitating the same.
