Geography • What was the land and climate in Thebes and where was it located? • Thebes is situated in a plain, between Lake Ylikito the north, and the Cithaeron mountains, which divide Boeotia from Attica, to the south. Its elevation is 227 yards above mean sea level. It is about 31 miles northwest of Athens, and 62 miles southeast of Lamia.

Writing • What kind of written language did Thebes use and how did they record the information? • The Theban alphabet is often called "The Runes of Honorius" It is also known as the 'Witch's Alphabet'. • It was invented by Honorius of Thebes. • Direction of writing is left to right in horizontally lines • The Theban writing was used by witches, to write spells, inscriptions, and other texts • It disguises the meaning of a text and also gives it a mystical quality

Legacy • What was the lasting impression Thebes left? • Thebes although developed came to a end in 290 BC after the Thebes was destroyed by Sulla, in the war against Rome. Half of its territory was given to Delphians, for compensation of theft of the Oracle.
