About the Fulbright Program Participants from 150 countries shared the goal of the program: “…to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchange…”. Since 1946, proposed by Senator J.W. Fulbright
Fulbright Program in Vietnam • Started in 1992 • Administered and coordinated by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi • Programs for Vietnamese citizens to the U.S.: • Vietnamese Scholar Program • Vietnamese Student Program • US – ASEAN Scholar Program • Programs for American citizens to Vietnam: • U.S. Scholars • U.S. Students • English Teaching Assistantship Program • Senior Specialist Program
Vietnamese Student Program • 20 – 25 awards for master level per year • Support fields of study in social sciences and humanities • Covers tuition and fees, monthly stipend, round-trip airfare, and accident & sickness insurance • Support placements at US universities for successful candidates. • Merit-based and open competition • No age limit • No minimum GPA requirement
Eligibility requirements • Hold single Vietnamese citizenship • Have one undergraduate degree • Have at least two years of work experience after the date of undergraduate diploma by the application deadline • Have a valid minimum TOEFL iBT score of 79 or IELTS 6.5
Vietnamese Scholar Program • The grant covers: • Monthly stipends • Accident and sickness insurance. • Round-trip airfare • Grant duration: 3 – 9 months • 7 – 10 grants per year • Up to now, more than 100 scholars have participated in this program
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must: • Be a Vietnamese citizen • Hold an M.A. or Ph.D. (or equivalent degree in some specific professionals) • Be proficient in English • Submit a complete application by the deadline of October 15, 2013
