Home to over half a millionbusinesses. Mazoviaisthe only regionaddressing JESSICA initiative to supportclustersand innovations.

Potential for Innovation The highest intellectual potential in Poland: • approx.312 thousand students(18,6 % of allPolishstudents)at more than 100 universities and colleges; • main schools: University of Warsaw, Warsaw School of Economics,Warsaw University of Technology, Radom Technical University; Expenditures for R&D: 4,6bn PLN ( 43% of Polishexpenditures ) R&D expenditure in relation to regional GNP: 1,35 % (nationalaverage – 0,74 %; EU average – 2,7 %) www.naukawpolsce.pap.pl

Mazovia’sclusters • We haveidentified42 clusters and clusterinititivesoperating in the Mazovia Region. • Problems and challenges in improvinginnovativeness of enterprises: • institutional, organisational and financialweakness of bussinessenvironmentalinstitutions; • barrierssuch as lack of funds, high creditcost, lack of informationaboutnewtechnologies and market opportunities; • restrainedinvolvmentof enterpreneursin internationalprogrammesimplemented by EuropeanCommission;

JESSICA initiative Joint EuropeanSupport for Sustainable Investment in City Areas • investmentsmaytake the form of equity, loansorguarantees; • necessity of complexapproach; • eligibility of projectexpenditureisbased on the same rules as StructuralFunds as a whole; • Why ? • recycling of funds • leverage • flexibility • expertise and creativity

  8. Project(s) Development and internationalisation of Mazovian Cluster of Technologies, Materials and Machines – BM³ The estimated investment isabout 10 mln PLN. The expectedsupportunder the JESSICA initiativeamounts to 6 mln PLN. The mainobjective of the projectis to tightencooperationbetweencompanies from metal processingindustry and knowledgeinstitutionstowardsensuring the competitiveadvantage of the Cluster members. The projectinvolves the construction and furbishment of a technologylaboratory, prototypeworkshop, showroom and rooferstrainingcentre.
