  1. In the Name of Allah ,The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful King Khalid University College of Computer and Information System Introduction to Computer Science From Concept to Execution Alaa Alwabel - 2011

  2. Web Design Phases

  3. Definition • Understanding site goals • These goals directly influence : • site’s structure. • visual design. • layout . • content choices. • Gathering business requirements • Keep it high level. • Make a list “ ability”. • Prioritize.

  4. Definition Building a project plan • lists all the steps • Organized by five phases • Figure out how much time, money, and people you need to accomplish each step.

  5. Web Design Phases

  6. Design • Design: • The design phase of a Web site is your chance to write the instruction manual for the team. • Creating the blueprint for the site • Designing a plan for each page • Implementing user testing • Putting together a content plan • Establishing “look-n-feel” • Getting input from a focus group

  7. Design • Creating the blueprint for the site • A site map shows all the major sections of a Web site and how they interconnect. • The interconnections lay the groundwork for your navigation scheme.

  8. Design Designing a plan for each page • Collects input from all team members • Builds a diagram layout, called a wireframe, for each major page of the site. • A wireframe shows the following elements: • Global navigation scheme (the navigation that appears on each page of your site) • Text and media chunks and their relative placement • Interaction design (how people use the elements on the page)

  9. Design Designing a plan for each page

  10. Design User testing: • It is an iterative process. • Allow making early adjustment. Content plan: • Where the news will come from? • How extensive it should be? • How often the client will be able to update it?

  11. Design Establishing “look-n-feel” • Create a design treatment for the home page and a subpage. Getting input from a focus group • Guide client in the right direction.

  12. Web Design Phases

  13. Development • Development: • In this phase, all video, audio, Flash animation, and graphics are prepared for the Web. • They’re compressed to: • speed up their Web travel, • saved in a Web-friendly format, • named, and uploaded to the server. • All programming and HTML work is done, and the site comes together, ready to be tested.

  14. Web Design Phases

  15. Testing and Lunch • Quality assurance: • keep a list of things to fix after launch. • Check misspellings, missing images, bad links • Check your site on different platforms (Mac and Windows) • Make sure that everything works the way you expect it to. • Check how fast various pages load when viewed through different connection speeds.

  16. Testing and Lunch Best “customer experience” in Web design circles: • file size • faster load.

  17. Web Design Phases

  18. Phase 5: Maintenance • Maintenance: • Keep the engineers close at hand just in case! • keep the site content fresh: changing images and text on a regular basis. • Larger upgrades or additions.
