E N D
What is TCIS • Training model that replaced Non-violent Crisis Intervention • Curriculum from Cornell University • Foundation of skills for CVES employees to prevent, de-escalate and intervene with student in crisis • Many schools and agencies around the state are transitioning to TCIS model with the goal of reducing and eliminating the needs to seclusion and physical restraints
Implementation • 3-5 year implementation for TCIS model • Special Education Division is in year 2 • CV-TEC Division is in year 1
Concepts • Policies and procedures may change as the process moves forward • It takes time to use common language consistently
Updates • Each staff member must complete 12 hours of “refresher” • Updates can be offered during morning team meetings, early dismissal days, superintendent days, faculty meetings • Ongoing professional development assures staff are practicing the skills they have learned so far
Cornell Visit Outcome • Very impressed with progress • Updates are most critical • Further along than most schools • Continue with process as it’s a culture change • CVES will be a model school to assist other schools with the implementation of TCIS
Next Steps • 100% staff trained both Special Education and CV TEC…dates to be determined • Common language • Updates follow through…dates to be determined • More district trainings…dates to be determined • Divisional meetings to address specific processes and protocols
Thank you • Support from Dr. Davey • Support from school districts • Awesome trainers!!! • Awesome participants!!!
