Timeline eGP in Latin America and the Caribbean First wave 1995-2005: information portals and minor interactive features. Second wave 2005-2014: interactive functionalities (supplier registries and e-tendering) and first transactional systems. Third wave 2015-present: large scale implementations, business intelligence, e-market place and infrastructure beyond in-house IT departments (government data centers, cloud based solutions).

What eGP has enabled in LAC Supplier registries Business intelligence Wide adoption of framework agreements Reverse e-auctions Means to support horizontal public policies Improved civil society oversight Savings (time and money) Better access of SMEs to the public procurement market
Challenges ahead How to continue developing eGP with a balanced perspective between control, efficiency and support to public policy. How to phase out legacy systems and contain excessive growth of IT departments. How to properly plan resources to upgrade/update COTS solutions. How to develop eGP as a means for procurement reform and not an end unto itself.
