  2. What is the Law? A site cannot store or gain access to information stored, in the terminal equipment of a subscriber or user, unless they have been given information about the purposes of the storage, and they have given their consent. There is an exception where the storage or access is strictly necessary for the provision of a service requested by the user. It is more that just cookies, but this is the current focus of attention.

  3. Why do we have it? • More and more data is being collected about people on the web. • This is being used and aggregated in ever more sophisticated ways. • The law is designed to ensure consumers are aware this and give them the choice whether or not to allow it.
