Art of Africa Dear Dr. Lensington: I just got back from my trip to southern Ethiopia and studied tribes throughout Ohmo valley. I have discovered many things about there culture. They use lip disk to make there lips very flaby. Many people do this in there culture. Many of there art represents there gods and other things in nature that help them live in Africa. They often have lip plates because of there sense of honor and tradition. The bigger the lip plate the more bride wealth they have. They do this to get married.
