  11. Seating Basics Seating Basics: Seat Plans The Seat Plan is an Engineering Drawing and communicates seating configuration information to a wide audience of users, including: Dealers - for seat configuration review per Customer and State Requirements Engineering - for FMVSS compliance review and input to weight distribution and analysis Logistics – Window BOM information Operations – for seat and other locatable option installation. Customers – for body dimensional information and reference Service – for configuration record Internal Systems – Seat data is stored in the ASIST database and field data is used directly by several internal programs and processes. 12. Seat Plans Seating Basics: Seat Plans Seat Plan intent is to show all location dependent options, such as this Storm Sash Window in this example New Table Shows Kneeroom Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  13. Dealer Review Seating Basics: Kneeroom & Spacing Seat Spacing is the distance from a point on a seat to the identical point on the seat in front or behind. Typically the back of the seat cushion is used to measure seat spacing in the bus.. Seat Spacing implies identical seats in a row. Kneeroom is the distance from the front of the seat back cushion to the back of the seat cushion in front measured at seat reference point (H point). For ROW SEATING: Kneeroom = Seat Spacing minus seat back thickness (at H point height). Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  14. Dealer Review Seating Basics: Kneeroom & Spacing For seats not included in a Row or non identical adjacent seats or barriers: Kneeroom = Cushion Depth + distance from previous seat back + seat back overhang Where seat back overhang = seat square – cushion depth – seat back thickness Critical seat dimension is seat back thickness at seat reference point height. Seat Type Seat Square Seat Back Thickness Cushion Depth Seat back overhang 41” FMVSS 24” 1.2” 16.2” 6.6” 45” FMVSS 24.8” 1.2” 16.2” 7.4” 41” FLIP 22.7” 5.4” 15.7” 1.6” 45” FLIP 23.6” 5.4” 15.7” 2.5” Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  15. Dealer Review Seating Basics: Dealer Review • Dealer should ALWAYS review seat plan for: • Seating capacity is correct for customer requirements • Number of emergency exits is correct for both FMVSS and state specifications • Location of Seats, Wheelchairs, Heaters, Luggage Boxes, etc. looks correct • Special State requirements are met • Special Customer requirements are met Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  20. FMVSS 222 Seating Basics: FMVSS 222 FMVSS 222 Requirements for Seat Plan: Seat Kneeroom must be above Minimum (24.25” for FMVSS School Seats) Seat Kneeroom must be below Maximum (28.5” for FMVSS School Seats) Barriers must allow 10” for forward push (above 10,000 lb. GVWR) ISO Latch and Child Restraint seats must be spaced at Maximum (28.5” for School Seats Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  21. FMVSS 217 Seating Basics: FMVSS 217 FMVSS 217 Requirements for Seat Plan All side emergency doors have a 12” clear aisle Seats and/or barriers at rear of side emergency exit doors do not project into exit area Rear exit area on rear door models allows for 24” x 12” x 48” volume in door without contacting seats Number of emergency exits ordered is sufficient for bus capacity Push out exit windows will allow passage of ellipsoid in front, back, or over seat backs Push out exits adjacent to wheelchairs (if necessary) allow ellipsoid to pass in front of torso. Push out exit handle access is at least 2” clear of nearest seat back Wheelchair tie downs are at least 18” from center of 12” clear aisle Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  22. State Specifications Database Seating Basics: State Specifications State Specifications Database: The intent of the State Specifications Database is to capture and communicate all state requirements that affect school buses in the region. The State Specifications Database is maintained by Rick Stanley in Sales All State Specifications listed in the Database that affect the Seat Plan should be flagged as “CRITICAL” Dealers should review the State Specifications Database on a regular basis and make sure it is up to date and correct. Report any corrections and/or changes to Rick Stanley 336-841-5927. Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  23. State Specifications Database C2 Seating Configurations The C2 model line incorporates fixed door locations and rafter positions. Some door location flexibility is incorporated by use of 30” door in a 40” window section, allowing three door positions: forward, center, and rear of 40” section. The increased body lengths, increased left side floor space with the forward driver’s side barrier location, wide rear emergency door, and flexible push out window locations should allow fixed door locations without sacrifice of capacity. C2 models should not lose rear seat passengers compared to current conventional model. Wheelchair configurations will be most affected by fixed door locations on C2. Weight Report Basics Weight Report Basics Common Terms: Weight Analysis Report GAWR GVWR Moment Balance Weight Distribution Loaded Weight Unladen Weight Curb Weight (shipping weight) Chassis Weight Base Weight Option Weight Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  27. Weight Report Theory Weight Report - Theory Axle reactions are calculated based on a Moment Balance about the front axle. Options with their CG between the axles load both axles proportionate to the distance from the first axle Options with a CG in front of the first axle load that axle more than their weight and unload the rear axle Options with a CG behind the rear axle load that axle more than their weight and unload the front axle Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  28. Weight Report Header Weight Report - Header All weights are within allowable ratings! Rear Axle Loads Front Axle Loads Total loaded vehicle weight Weight Distribution Unladen (no passengers) weights State Special allows non standard calculations for Locality requirements, such as special California unladen Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  29. Weight Ratings Weight Report - Ratings • Weight Ratings (allowable loads apply to individual axles and total vehicle weight) are included in the Weight Report header . • GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Ratings) are limited by: • Axle rating • Suspension rating • Tire rating • GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is limited by: • Sum of axle ratings • Transmission rating • Brake performance • Chassis Manufacturer imposed limit • Customer imposed limit Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Sales Training Manual - Volume I - Product Knowledge

  30. Weight Distribution Weight Report – Weight Distribution • Weight Distribution (percentage of vehicle weight carried on each axle) is included in the Weight Report header. • Allowable weight differs by model: • TBB ER units - Front minimum 30%, maximum 35% • TBB EF units - Front minimum 29%, maximum 50% • FS65 units - Front minimum 25%, maximum 35% • Minotour - maximum allowed by GAWR • Ballast may need to be added to TBB chassis models to achieve this balance.
