That is a week from TODAY! • For extra credit – turn your major project in on Friday. • You have the rubric – so do your best and get the grade you want! • Pennies for Patients starts Next Week – February 6-24 – Please support! Your HOMEROOM Classroom. Minimum of $5 per person for the school to reach our goal. • Bible Notebooks Due on Friday: Syllabus, Major Project Guidelines, Classroom Expectations, Returned Tests, Into The Bible works, Returned Handouts – worth 100 pts

  4. Student will be able to: • Analyze how God used Elijah to defeat Baal worship in Israel; • Examine Elijah's deep depression and his restoration by God following the Mt. Carmel experience; • Compare the styles, methods, and results in the ministries of Elijah and Elisha; • Recognize that in crucial periods of history, God will do His utmost to maintain His connection with His people; • Examine the strategy in Jehoshaphat's victory over Moab and its relevance for the Christian life; • Examine how Hosea's ministry illustrates Israel's unfaithfulness and God's unfailing love. • Explore the causes and consequences of Israel's defeat by the Assyrians; • Examine the role Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon played in carrying out divine judgment upon Judah; • Examine how the prophets reveal that God offered redemption before He acted in judgment; • Describe the role, function, and time frame of the Hebrew prophets.

Elijah and The Drought • Elijah said – there would be a drought – 1 Kings 17:1 • God fed him and provided him with water • The brook dried up and God led him to Zaraphath – a widow was there • Flour and Oil did not run dry • Son of the widow died – Elijah stretched himself on the boy – 3 times – and cried to God – and God heard and brought him back to life – 1 Kings 17:21, 22

Drought for 3 years • God told Elijah to go before Ahab • Who was Obadiah? • Ahab’s palace Administrator – He was a devout believer in God. • Obadiah hid 100 prophets of God in caves • Elijah told Obadiah to tell Ahab to meet him • People from all over Israel were to meet him on Mt. Carmel • Bring 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah

  7. Mt. Carmel • Call on your god – called until noon • Elijah began to make fun – maybe he is thinking, busy, traveling, or sleeping • They cut themselves with swords and spears • Time of the evening sacrifice – so ALL day

Elijah’s Response • Took 12 stones – one for each tribe • Dug a trench – able to hold about 24 lbs • Fill 4 large jars – filled them 3 times • Fire from God burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil – also licked up all the water • Took the prophets off the mountain into the Kishon Valley and slaughtered them there • Elijah went back on top of the mountain to look for the approaching rain • 7 times he asked his servant – do you see any hint of rain? • 7th time – I see a small cloud

Heavy rain and ran ahead of Ahab back to Jezreel – 17 miles • Ahab told his wife – Jezebel – what had happened to her prophets • She said – that she was going to kill Elijah • He was scared and ran for his life • Went a day’s journey into the wilderness – sat down and rested – angel provided food for him • Went another 40 days and nights until he reached Horeb – 2,370 miles – same as Mt. Sinai

  11. First a wind • Earthquake • Fire • Whisper – What are you doing here Elijah?

  12. Captivity AGAIN • Northern Kingdom of Israel taken into captivity in 722 BC by the Assyrians • Southern Kingdom of Judah taken into captivity by the Babylonians in 586 BC
