Introduction of CRON Lin Xue Feb.12 2010
What is CRON • “cron.cct.lsu.edu” testbedproject is based on the Emulab system in the University of Utah. • Emulab: the facility and the software system for network emulation. • Purposes: to give hardware level testing environment, especially for those researchers perform hardware level system simulation in high precise virtual reality networks.
What can CRON do? • 1. common speed (100Mbps or 1000Mbps) of Ethernet emulation, including traffic delay test, package corruption test, package re-ordering test, and different topologies of traffic design. • 2. high speed network emulation, such as 10Gbps optical network interface card and 10Gbps hardware emulator. • 3. advanced TCP/IP network protocol will be tested based on implementation in kernel among different operation systems. Such experiments will ultimately evaluate the current TCP/IP protocols as long as kernel performance (Linux, UNIX). And give implication of future generation solution around high speed network.
QoS on CRON • Users can specify how it should adapt under overload conditions • global scheduling service to divide tasks and flows among network components
