OK GO – Needing Getting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MejbOFk7H6c
Medium shot First thing we see, is the band sitting in bright colours within a car – diegetic sounds (chatting ‘are you ready?’)
Establishing shot Impressive location, this shot introduces the location and gives the audience an idea of what is happening
Introducing each of the band members up-close and also showing the music they are making or playing Different camera angles give more of an atmosphere to the video (your there) Medium Close up Close up
Long shot Shows car brand and this interesting shot introduces the music being created from the outside
On the move Showing speed of the car and changing between point of view of the band and ‘watching’ camera’ Lots of various camera placements (magnitude of video)
CONTEXT As narratives show a story and a plot – this video isn’t specifically a narrative but I think that as the viewer is watching the song unravel (through the introduction of new ‘instruments’) you find that there is a story of them trying to make the video. Following where they’re going and waiting for more surprises it holds loose features of the style of video. Performance based in the way it is being recorded live, the video is also conceptual as it is unusual. The car has a brand logo which is subtly shown, and therefor is product placement but this may be to promote both the band and the car. This also may be what paid for the video. The use of product placement means the video and its magnitude can be made. Along with the video there is a ‘making of’ this works well and introduces the audience into the world of video making.
