Memory Verse: Hebrew 10:36 “36 For ye have need for patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” BIBLE PASSAGE:Hebrews 6:9-16 INTRODUCTION: Patience can be described as endurance or perseverance. To be patient is to continue striving in spite of oppositions, trials, temptations and difficulties. It can also be described as godly response to all afflictions and pressures of this life – 2 Peter 3:15, Romans 5:3-4. PATIENCE
PATIENCE Outlines: CHARACTERISTICS OF PATIENCE HOW TO ACQUIRE PATIENCE
Outline 1: • CHARACTERISTICS OF PATIENCE • Patience is essential to building relationships – Proverbs 15:18. • It is needed to come into the fullness of God’s plans for us – Hebrews 10:36, James 5:11. • It is also essential to reaping the full benefits of tribulation – James 1:2-4. • It is vital to the successful exercise of faith because it acknowledges the reality that things received in faith takes time to manifest – Hebrews 11:1, Lamentations 3:22-26. • It strengthens hope and allays the fear of disappointment – Romans 8:24-25. • It enhances our expectation for the second coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ – James 5:7-8. PATIENCE
PATIENCE • Outline 2: • HOW TO ACQUIRE PATIENCE. • The first thing that is essential to having patience is to desire, be determined and to pray for it – Job 14:14, Romans 15:5, 2 Thessalonians 3:5. • Secondly, we can study to learn about God’s patience because His justice, His acts and His ways are ordered according to His will – Luke 8:15, John 5:39. Trials and temptations constitute biblical school of patience - James 1:2-4. • Finally, the Holy Spirit is the giver of patience – Galatians 5:22-24.
PATIENCE • CONCLUSION • There are examples of people who had and exhibited the virtue of patience in the Bible. They are: Abraham – Hebrews 6:13-16, Jacob – Genesis 29:26-28, Job – Job 13:15, Hannah – 1 Samuel 1:1-6, Paul – Acts 16:23-24 and our Lord Jesus Christ – Hebrews 12:2. We are persuaded that by His grace we too can run this heavenly race despite all odds with patience and ultimately reach our goal – Hebrews 12:1.
