Comparison: North v. South • Very little of the north involved in the battles • More industry, supply of workers • Political Party: Republican • Wished to punish the south • Limited number of African Americans • Much of the war fought in the southern states • Main industry is farming, reduced supply of workers • Political Party: Democrat • Interested in returning to a more normal way of life • High amount of freed, uneducated former slaves North South
