  4. Current Events • Space junk on the moon - leftover from moon landings • Significant flooding - heavy rainfall - continues through tomorrow • End of USPS - postal service broke

  6. Think-Pair-Share • What effects did the war have on society? • How did this effect African Americans? • Do you think this strengthened the government, why or why not?

  7. Comparison: North v. South • Very little of the north involved in the battles • More industry, supply of workers • Political Party: Republican • Wished to punish the south • Limited number of African Americans • Much of the war fought in the southern states • Main industry is farming, reduced supply of workers • Political Party: Democrat • Interested in returning to a more normal way of life • High amount of freed, uneducated former slaves North South

  8. Reconstruction: Rebuilding the South • The southern states required rebuilding - much of the area left in ruin • Area was impoverished - little industry, limited resources • Different plans - Lincoln, Johnson, and radical republicans
