What is weather? • Set of all phenomena occurring at a given time in the atmosphere. • example: wind, atmospheric pressure, humidity
Climate • Sum of weather conditions for a region over a long period of time.
Front • a boundary between two air masses of different density, moisture content, or temperature.
Stationary front • Front does not move or barely moves. Has similar characteristics to warm fronts.
Cold Front • Replace warm air with cold air. Associated with severe weather
Warm Front • Warm air replaces cold air. Long light showers typically, some severe weather.
Occluded front • Mixing of air. Cold fronts move faster than warm fronts. Can have characteristics of either cold or warm fronts
Weather Isolines • Isotherms – Lines of equal temperature • Isodrosotherms – Lines of equal dew point temperature.
