First Aid Injuries to members of the public • In 2006/07 there were 369 fatal injuries; • There were 17,483 reported non-fatal. HSE Reported fatal & non-fatal injuries 06/07 • There were 241 workers fatally injured • 28 267 major injuries to employees. • There were 113 083 other injuries to employees causing absence of over 3 days..
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require you to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first aid to be given to your employees if they are injured or become ill at work.
What is Adequate and Appropriate? This depends on the results of the risk assessment that has to take place. Each workplace is unique!
There is a minimum • A suitably stocked first aid box • An appointed person to take charge of first aid arrangements
