ISO Interaction with OCLC • The following presentation describes ISO interoperability between VDX and OCLC-WCRS for borrowing requests. It will now be possible to send requests directly from VDX to OCLC-WCRS. • The implementation of ISO interaction between VDX and OCLC-WCRS will be carried out in (4) phases: • Addition of 570 OCLC locations to VDX (Completed) • Changing the protocol for 275 VDX locations, currently GS (June 11, 2012) • Borrowing – after June 11, 2012 (On request) • Lending - Autumn 2012 (On request) • Advantage: • Eliminating the double management of requests in VDX and OCLC-WCRS.
ISO Interaction with OCLC – Background Data Libraries with OCLC accounts • Concordia University • HEC • McGill University • École Polytechnique • Université de Montréal • Université de Sherbrooke • UQAM Sherbrooke, UQAM and Polytechnique are “Borrower only” Libraries may be Borrower / Supplier, Supplier only, or Borrower only in OCLC Libraries without OCLC accounts • Bishop’s University • ENAP • ÉTS • INRS • Télé-Université • Université Laval • UQAC • UQAR • UQAT • UQO • UQTR
ISO Interaction with OCLC – Background Data 2010 – 2011 Statistics Borrowing: 8,480 requests with HOCLC as lender in VDX. 149 requests with an OCLC library registered in VDX with the GS protocol as lender Lending: 3,350 requests with HOCLC as borrower in VDX. 60 requests with an OCLC library registered in VDX with the GS protocol as borrower Total: 11,830 vs. 209
ISO Interaction with OCLC – OCLC Locations OCLC Locations in VDX • Currently, OCLC locations in VDX must not be used, neither for lending nor for borrowing. • Once you have implemented ISO interaction with OCLC, you may use them for your borrowing requests. • Easily identifiable in VDX: • In the Location record: • In the Rota (Borrower):
ISO Interaction with OCLC – Lending Institutions with an OCLC-WCRS account: • Will continue to use HOCLC until Lending is implemented in Autumn 2012 Institutions without OCLC-WCRS (or who are borrower-only in OCLC) who wish to lend to an OCLC location in VDX: • Must use the virtual locations to manage these requests • HVDX (No email) • Hxxxx (With email) - Recommended • Two possible scenarios: • OCLC Borrower in VDX wishing to use the Colombo Web request form to borrow from a Colombo library • Borrower who contacts you directly by email
ISO Interaction with OCLC – Lending Scenario 1: OCLC Borrower in VDX using the Colombo Web request form: • The request will be rejected by VDX. • The Colombo team will resend the request having replaced the borrower symbol with your Hxxxx symbol. • We will add the OCLC symbol and Long Description of the borrowing library to a Notein the request. • You must refer to the VDX location record to find the delivery coordinates: Address, Email, Ariel, etc. Scenario 2: Borrower who contacts you directly by email: • If the borrower is already registered in VDX, enter the request in the form yourself using your Hxxxx symbol as borrower. • If the borrower is not registered in VDX, refer them to our WEB registration form. http://www.uquebec.ca/colombo/form/Libraries.htm
ISO Interaction with OCLC – Lending Example: http://www.uquebec.ca/colombo/form/Demande_PEB_test.htm Billing with Hxxxx or HVDX • Enter the cost without indicating a Payment Method (Shipped action) • The Shipping List will contain all the necessary information, except for the Borrower Address, which will be blank • Enter the borrower’s coordinates manually or using a mailing label See the following documentation for additional details: • Documentation: CREPUQ's libraries without WCRS account - May 2012 • Documentation: Interaction with Different Partners– April 2012
