EDUCATION: FINNISH SYSTEM • HEI systemconsists of universities and universities of appliedsciences (UAS) • Bologna process: two-cycledegreesystemwith bachelor and masterdegrees, ECTS, Diplomasupplement, national accreditationsystem • UAS degreestudiesgive a highereducationqualification and practicalprofessionalskills. Theycomprisecore and professionalstudies, electivestudies and a finalproject. Alldegreestudiesincludepracticalon-the-joblearning. • Thereare no tuitionfees in degreeeducation, and the Finnishstudentscanapply for financialaid. • BA studies is generally 210−240 studypoints (ECTS), whichmeans 3.5 - 4 years of full-timestudy. • The requirement for MA studies in UAS is a Bachelors' level UAS degree and at leastthreeyears of workexperience. The UAS MA, which is 60-90 studypoints and takes 1.5-2 years, is equivalent to a universityMaster's in the labour market. Raili Suojoki

BA DEGREE PROGRAMME IN SOCIAL SERVICES TAUGHT IN ENGLISH (DSS) • Diakoffers a BA Programme in Social Services taught in English (DSS). • The programme is designed to beopen to Finnish and international studentsincludingadultstudents. • Focus on communitydevelopmentwork, option in diaconia • Major challengesare the growth of social exclusion, the need to tacklediscrimination and racism and to buildsociety in diversity. • European and international perspective • Programmeaims for the development of socially and economicallysustainablecommunities.
