Purpose • The VOTES Database is a project that will create an online resource whereby Alabama voters may enter their home ZIP code, and a MySQL database will return that person’s local candidates for office, from President of the United States to their local city council members. • The CBH project will consist of construction of the database and website, as well as some initial data entry VOTESdb 2004
Purpose • The VOTES Coalition is a student-led group designed to promote voter education and awareness on college campuses in Alabama • This database will appear on the VOTES Coalition website, currently hosted at http://bama.ua.edu/~votes VOTESdb 2004
Software • Computer System: Microsoft Windows • Language: HTML, PHP, SQL, JavaScript; applications include Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Macromedia Flash VOTESdb 2004

Previous Work • No previous work • A nationwide database exists at Vote-Smart.org; however, this database does not cover local elections VOTESdb 2004
Components • MySQL database: will store all information for online access • PHP functions: will generate webpages and allow user to pull up customized information on political candidates • “Control Panel”: a secured webpage with HTML forms that will allow authorized users to enter data into the database without computer expertise VOTESdb 2004
Timeline All dates 2004: • October 15th: all hosting established (MySQL database acquired, web hosting found); website interface template complete • October 22nd: skeletal database structure complete and ready for testing; begin data collection for Tuscaloosa County VOTESdb 2004
Timeline • November 5th: PHP functions complete; data on Tuscaloosa County fully entered, ready for full test • November 12th: debugging and testing complete; begin development of input control panel • December 3rd: control panel complete, ready for testing • December 10th: all systems complete and ready for complete data entry VOTESdb 2004
