Program Background • Varsity High School Sport • 6th Season • Fencing Club 03-04 • Started by PJ Verona and Jillian Mahen • NJ has the highest number of high school fencing programs* • Self-Funded for Three Years • Board supported this year • This will not cover all expenses • Fundraising is still important! • Team Captains: Sara-Emma Graham, Kim Morsch and Zia Zaidi *SOURCE: PACKETONLINE News Classifieds Entertainment Business - Princeton and Central NewJersey 2006

  3. 2008-09 Results • Over 10 USFA-Rated Fencers in the program • 2008-09 Results: Girls: District One Team Champion Only team to beat eventual State Champions, GLHS • Foil Squad, State Silver Medalists • Epee Squad, State Bronze Medalists • Kim Morsch, Kaitlyn Wallace in Epee Ind Finals • Ryan Western in State Foil Ind Finals Boys: Finished 5th in District Championships • Saber Squad, 6th place, State Championships • Mendham program has produced seven(7) students fencing in college

Why Fencing? • Fencing is terrific exercise, working out the core of your body, endurance and cardio all at once. • Fencing is a mental exercise as well, sometimes called ‘physical chess.’ • Fencing is a sport that prides itself on sportsmanship, etiquette and tradition. • For the elite fencer, scholarships are available.

  5. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS • Be healthy and observe guidelines for athletes • Be willing to work hard and to your fullest potential • Be ready and on time for practices and meets • Alert Coaches in advance of any absences • Respect • Support • Sportsmanship ENDHAM

  6. PARENT EXPECTATIONS • Support the Teams, Squads and Fencers • Attend Meets, Meetings, Fundraisers • Support the Mendham High School Fencing Parents’Association • Money • Time • Volunteering ENDHAM

  7. EQUIPMENT • You do need to buy your own uniform, glove and mask, which costs about $200.
