  2. Calpurnia teaches Scout how to be polite at the table. • Scouts first day of school went horrible when she was disrespectful calling Walter Cunningham poor. After class she attacked him and her brother Jem thought it was right to invite him to dinner. When dinner was served Walter asked for the syrup and he poured it onto his food, Scout embarrassed him and told him he was disgusting. Calpurnia pulled her into the kitchen and told her that Walter is her guest and if she doesn’t know how to be respectful she can eat by herself in the kitchen.

  3. How did she actually get through to Scout? • “That boy’s yo’ comp’ny and if he wants to eat up the table cloth you let him, you hear?”

  4. What is Scouts lesson? • When Calpurnia pulled her into the kitchen she basically told scout to be polite to people because it doesn’t matter where people come from. They are guest in your house, they are here to visit you, at least show respect. • What Scout learned that day was that she should be polite to her guest because they are here to give her company, it doesn’t matter where they come from.
