  5. Compressor Purpose • To raise the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant

  7. Body Ears Endplate Crankshaft Crankcase Lip seal Compressor Parts

  8. Compressor Body • The mounting place for other compressor parts • Holds refrigerant and lubricating oil • Made of aluminum on newer vehicles

  9. Compressor Ears • Built-in mounting points for attaching compressor to engine Ears

  10. Endplate • Attached to the compressor body • Low and high side hose connections installed on the body or endplate

  11. Crankshaft and Crankcase • Crankshaft rides on bearings in the compressor body • Crankcase holds the crankshaft

  13. Compressor Parts • Crankshaft drive end extends from the body • Pulley and clutch assembly installed on the crankshaft drive end

  14. Lip Seal • Always installed where crankshaft drive end extends from compressor body
