Warm-Up • Choose the quote from your reading (1-2 sentences) that resonated with you the most. Write it down, and write an explanation for why you chose the quote and what it means to you.
In-Class • Work together in groups of 2-3. You will turn in one piece of notebook paper with all participants’ names on it – collaborate!! • Summarize the main points of Prose’s essay. Identify her central argument (thesis). • Identify the most effective example of ethos, logos, and pathos in Prose’s essay. Write down one quote for each and label it. Then, write a statement (2-3 sentences) explaining how these three examples work together to strengthen Prose’s central argument. • Questions on Rhetoric and Style #2, 5, and 7 (LC p. 100). Thoroughly answer each question using complete sentences.
Homework • Kincaid TW Re-Write due @ start of class tomorrow • Typed / 12 pt TNR font • Double-spaced throughout & no extra space between paragraphs • black ink on white paper / 1” margins • **Must turn in original AND re-write • Rhetorical Précis due Mon. 9/22/14 • Malcolm X annotations • Bullet point pre-write • Hand written rough draft • Typed final draft with in-class notes on it (from today) • Typed final draft – final copy (MLA formatting)
