  6. Summary ‘Big Trouble’ Scenario • No consensus built across the entire Geomatics Sector and no common vision established to drive the Sector to a new and successful position. • Lack of vision leads to falling support for the Sector from government as the Sector becomes increasingly detached from mainstream policy issues and citizens rarely get engaged with the Sector.

  7. Summary ‘Big Trouble’ Scenario • The private sector is in disarray, does not reposition and respond to the dramatic market shifts and does not move up the value chain to strategically focus on specialized value-added location information services to both consumer and business markets. • The status quo is retained and there is no consolidation, increase in capacity or significant investment in the Sector.

  8. Summary ‘Big Trouble’ Scenario • Competition from the global location information service players continues to increase and the size of the private sector diminishes.

  9. Summary ‘Big Trouble’ Scenario Outcome: • The combination of a private sector with reduced capacity, ambition and competitiveness, and a public sector unable to finance and support their aspirations, leads to a Geomatics Sector that cannot capitalize on the opportunities to deliver significant benefits to Canada’s society and economy.

  10. Breakout SessionReview Scenario Objective: • To review and improve the draft scenario provided and to determine the events shaping the scenario. Approach: • Use the drivers of change associated with the two axes of uncertainty to refine and improve the draft scenario. • Identify the sequence of events shaping the scenario (max 8). • Use the template provided to define the scenario. • Where consensus can’t be reach quickly within the group then just document the disagreements.

  11. Breakout SessionReview Scenario Organisation: • There will be 4 separate groups for the breakout session. • You have 1 hour. • Each group needs volunteers for chair and rapporteur. • Use paper flip charts and template to document proposed changes. Feedback: • Rapporteurs will provide feedback (5 minutes) on proposed changes to scenario and associated events. • We will try to combine all the changes from each group into a common scenario for the Round Table.
