PSSD Numeracy Goals • Staff in Prairie Spirit are participating in a listen and learn year, finding out more about numeracy programs in our schools so that we might better align approaches across the division. • By the end of 2014, 50% of the K-8 schools in the division will have used a diagnostic tool to assess their students’ numeracy skills. • By the end of June 2014, 40% of teaching staff will participate in collaborative professional learning.

Process to date (Strengths) • Reviewed Divisional School Plans (areas of focus include basic facts, mental math, and problem solving) • Create a tool to build a school profile, based on research • Met with individual school principals who indicated a numeracy goal on their school plan • Discussed current practices • Discussed numeracy resources and shared new resources • Reviewed the numeracy profile form • Lesson Study • Manitou Elementary School • Prairie Mountain Elementary • St. Claude Complex

  4. Challenges and Next Steps • Continue to develop and research appropriate diagnostic numeracy tools • Support schools based on the feedback from schools (school profile) • Implement diagnostic tools and analyze their effectiveness • Continue to promote professional practice that includes collaborative planning and discussions to improve student learning and engagement
