Objectives (You will need another sheet of paper for this) • 9/9/13 • I will identify vocabulary words for the Beginnings of Man Unit (Unit I) • Once you have written this down, place the sheet behind your “Objectives” divider.
(1) Code of Hammurabi • The first group of laws for Sumerians that had different punishments for rich and poor people, men and women.
(2) Paleolithic Era • The cultural period of the Stone Age beginning with the earliest chipped stone tools until the beginning of the Mesolithic Period
(3) Homo Sapiens • The modern species of humans
(4) Hunter – Gatherer • A member of a people subsisting in the wild on food obtained by hunting and foraging
(5) Artifacts • An object produced or shaped by human craft, especially a tool, weapon, or ornament of archaeological or historical interest
(6) Phoenicians • An ancient maritime country of southwest Asia consisting of city-states along the eastern Mediterranean Sea in present-day Syria and Lebanon – mainly sailors!!!
(7) Surplus • An amount of something left over when requirements have been met
(8) POlytheism • The belief in many gods
(9) Barter • Exchange (goods or services) for other goods or services without using money
(10) Tyranny • Cruel and oppressive government or rule
