  2. Infectious Disease • disease transmitted by a microorganism (bacteria or virus) Ex. These are streptococcus bacteria which cause strep throat

  3. Ingestion • taking in food (EATING)

  4. Interferon • substance produced by a cell when it’s invaded by a virus

  5. Internal Fertilization • fertilization that takes place inside the body of the female

  6. Interneuron • type of neuron that connects sensory and motor neurons

  7. Invertebrate • animal without a backbone Examples:

  8. Iris • circular, colored part of the eye that regulates the amount of light entering the eye

  9. Islet of Langerhans • group of cells in the pancreas that produces the hormones insulin and glucagon

  10. Joint • place where two bones meet

  11. Kidneys • excretory organs that filter wastes from the blood

  12. Large Intestine • digestive system organ in which water is absorbed and undigested food is stored

  13. Larva • stage of insect that develops from an egg ?

  14. Larynx • voice box

  15. Law • summarizing statement based on observed facts tested many times and accepted as true Ex. Newton’s Laws of Motion or Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation
