2. Brrr… You may think bur? I’m not cold, but if you lay on a glacier you will say bur. HEY YOU! Do you want to learn about the different layers of a glacier? GREAT! The top layer is all snow.! Do you think snow is cold? I definitely do! Anyway, back to glaciers, the middle layer and the bottom layers are both ice. Oops! Sorry, my bad, the middle layer is a combination of snow and ice. The bottom layer is all ice. That reminds me, do you know how much of land is covered by glaciers? No, I'll tell you. 10% of earth is covered by glaciers. And 80% of earths fresh water is in glaciers. Now do you see why glaciers are so cold? speaking of cold, CAN SOMEBODY PUT THE HEAT ON IM FREEZING!!!!!!?????? Oh, sorry, forgot I was teaching. Oh, I almost forgot, did I tell you what a glacier is, no, ill tell you come on, come into my classroom! a glacier is a GIGANTIC mass of moving ice. Moving ice you may ask? Well a glacier moves like people do but at a slower paste at approximately at about 30 centimeters each and every day. That is about as fast as a snail! Glaciers move by something called gravity. Do you know where glaciers mostly are? They are pretty much only found in the poles. Mostly in the south poles. Do you know what fern is? Well, fern is when crushed ice crushes to much and and pellets of ice form. But remember only the lower layers of ice turn to ice. I about you but I love hot weather so bye! I'm going to Florida. 3. The snowflakedidit! You may be asking a snowflake? Did what? A snowflake cant build a glacier. Its too small! well, a glacier does build up from a snowflake but over time !and its not just one snowflake! Its many different snowflakes combined. Big or small. For glaciers to form the air has to be moist, for the glaciers to freeze. Can you believe that in some parts of Antarctica the air is never moist so glaciers cant and don’t form, in that part. Do you even know the steps for a glacier to form? No? well, ill tell you. First you should know that there are 5 steps for a glacier to form. The first step for a glacier to form is it has to snow and snow and snow several times for a glacier to not yet form but pile up. The second step is… a glacier forms by the new snow that crushes the bottom layers into a big mass of ice called a… GLACIER! The 3rd step is the glacier slides down its mountain side. 4. the glacier slides into an ocean or a lake last but not least 5… pieces of the glacier break off and becomes a Iceberg. 4. Valley glacier vs. ice sheet “ Valley and ice sheet sitting in a lake g-l-a-c-i-e-r-s.!”oh! Hi there! Didn’t know you were there! I was just singing’ a tune. “what’s that?” “you want to learn more about vally glaciers and ice sheets?” well come on to my glacier cave.(down stairs in my basement.)…I’l tell you! A valley glacier is a kind of glacier. In a valley glacier there is a cirque.a cirque is a bowl shaped space. What happens in a cirque is when snow falls, the snow never melts because of its freezing cold air. Each time it snows the cirque gets deeper and deeper! Do you know what a icesheet is? No? Did you know that a icesheet is bigger and thinner than a valley glacier? A icesheet can be so big that it can cover over a continent! It can cover over seas and land! the scientific word for a ice sheet that covers water is a------ ice shelf. Sometimes iceshelfs break off and turn into icebergs. Icebergs are dangerous! They can crash into ships! Just like the titanic! Have you heard of the ship/movie titanic? No, well, that’s a whole other story. Uh-oh! I think a ice burg Is about to hit my ship! HHHHEEEELLLPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Glaciers on the move Glaciers don’t move you may say!.! But…they do! and no, not like a river. With gravity. Not all at once. It takes time! Wait patiently! oh, sorry do you know how glaciers shape the land? No, I'll tell you. glaciers shape the land when they move. When it moves it scrapes the land and picks up rock and gravel on the way. While it scrapes the ground it is actually making beautiful land scrapes underneath it all. People are always saying how horrible glaciers are, and that all they do is destroy our planet earth. I hope you are willing to straiten them out. and tell them what you are going to learn on the next page. The next page is about how glaciers build and destroy earth. While you are going to the next slide be thinking about how a glacier builds and destroys our planet.

6. Nice or mean build or destroy? Did you know that a glacier can build land and destroy it to? Unlike a earthquake a glacier does more good things to our earth than bad. The really bad thing a glacier does to our earth is it pulls rocks out of the ground. There are quite a few more things a glacier does to the earth that are good. Here let me list them…1. glaciers form magnificent land skrapes. glacier seep into cracks that were/are in rocks.3. glaciers carry rocks as they move, they also pick up and pile rocks (as you already know) that’s it for now, there’s a few more but I can name them all. many glaciers can be around 1 mountain. Glaciers form the horn of the mountain. do you know what a kettle is? A kettle is basically a hole that is formed by melt water and if that hole fills up it could patentientially become a river or a lake. well see you for now.
