  1. Love for Parents Module 5 – Circle 2

  2. Are parents important? For people who have both parents, they can easily forget how fortunate they are to be blessed with them. Many people do not realise the greatness of parents until they have passed away. After Allah swt parents are the ones who give us innumerable favours. Module 5 – Circle 2

  3. Does Islam tell us to honour our parents? "We have instructed man to honour his parents." (29:8) Module 5 – Circle 2

  4. Parents rights over children: The right to be respected & obeyed Abu Bakr (ra) reported that the Prophet pbuh said, "Shall I tell you which is the worst of the major wrong actions?" "Yes, Messenger of Allah," they replied. He said, "Associating something else with Allah and disobeying parents." he had been reclining, but then he sat up and said, "And false witness." Abu Bakr said, "He continued to repeat it until I said, 'Is he never going to stop?'" (Bukhari & Muslim) Module 5 – Circle 2

  5. Should you obey your Parents in worldly matters? Abu'd-Darda' said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, recommended nine things to me: 'Do not associate anything with Allah, even if you are cut to pieces or burned. Do not abandon a prescribed prayer deliberately. Anyone who abandons it will forfeit Allah's protection. Do not drink wine - it is the key to every evil. Obey your parents. If they command you to abandon your worldly possessions, then leave them for them. Do not contend with those in power, even if you think that you are in the right. Do not run away from the army when it advances, even if you are killed while your companions run away. Spend on your wife out of your means. Do not raise a stick against your wife. Cause your family to fear Allah, the Almighty and Exalted.'" (Bukhari) Module 5 – Circle 2

  6. Is there much reward in being dutiful to your parents? Narrated 'Abdullah: I asked the Prophet pbuh "Which deed is the dearest to God?" He replied, "To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times." I asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, "To be good and dutiful to your parents"...(Bukhari) Module 5 – Circle 2

  7. What if your parents ask you to do something against the Islam? "We have enjoined on man and woman kindness to parents; but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not'" (29:8) Module 5 – Circle 2

  8. Parents rights over children: The right to discipline children if necessary It is an instinctive obligation for parents to protect their children from physical and moral harm. If a small child puts its hand in fire it is natural urge for you to push the child back, even if the child does not want to. Module 5 – Circle 2

  9. Parents rights over children: The right to be looked after "They ask you (Muhammad) what they should spend (in charity). Say: Whatever you spend that is good is for parents and kindred and orphans and those in need and for wayfarers.  And whatever you do that is good, Allah knows it well." (2:215) Module 5 – Circle 2

  10. Parents rights over children: The right to be helped As parents grow old their energies begin to decline. Hence it is the duty of children to help their parents in any household chore in which they can help. Module 5 – Circle 2

  11. Parents rights over children: The right to kind words and good behaviour And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (17:23) Module 5 – Circle 2

  12. Do children have rights over Parents? Children have a right to be fed, clothed and protected. They also have a right to be loved, educated and provided for materially Narrated by Abu Huraira: “Allah's Apostle kissed Al-Hasan bin Ali while Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them," Allah's Apostle cast a look at him and said: "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully." (Bukhari) Module 5 – Circle 2

  13. Spending Quality Time with your Parents  The Prophet pbuh said: "A time will come when people will greet their friends warmly, and approach their parents with a cold attitude" (Bukhari) Module 5 – Circle 2

  14. Importance of saying thank you to Parents We should always be grateful to our Parents for all that they do for us, no matter how small their actions are. Parents put their children first, and by thanking them, children will be rewarded by Allah swt, and parents will feel proud Module 5 – Circle 2

  15. Becoming angry with your parents "Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger pbuh as saying: The strong-man is not one who wrestles well but the strong man is one who controls himself when he is in a fit of rage.  (Muslim) Module 5 – Circle 2

  16. Lying to parents ‘Abdullah Bin Mas’ud narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “It is obligatory for you to tell the truth, for truth leads to virtue and virtue leads to Paradise…and beware of telling of a lie for telling of a lie leads to obscenity and obscenity leads to Hell-Fire...” (Bukhari and Muslim) The Prophet pbuh said, "Whoever does not give up false statements (i.e. telling lies), and evil deeds, and speaking bad words to others, Allah is not in need of his (fasting) leaving his food and drink" (Bukhari). Module 5 – Circle 2

  17. Does the Mother have a higher status than the Father? Abu Huraira said, "The Prophet was asked, 'Messenger of Allah, to whom should I be dutiful?' 'Your mother,' he replied. He was asked, 'Then whom?' 'Your mother,' he replied. He was asked, 'Then whom?' 'Your mother,' he replied. He was asked, 'Then whom?' He replied, 'Your father.'" Module 5 – Circle 2

  18. Is it possible to re-pay your parents? Abu Huraira (ra) reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "A child cannot repay his father unless he finds him as a slave and the buys him and sets him free." (Muslim) Module 5 – Circle 2

  19. The Dua of Parents Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet pbuh said, "Three supplications are answered without a doubt: the supplication of someone who is oppressed, the supplication of someone on a journey, and the supplication of parents for their children."(Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi) Module 5 – Circle 2

  20. Do not close your gates to Jannah Abu Umama (ra) narrates that a man enquired from the Prophet pbuh: “O Rasul Allah! What are the rights of parents over their offspring?” The Prophet replied: “Your entry into Paradise or Hell depends on your good or bad conduct towards your parents.” [Ibn Majah] Abu Hurayra (ra) reported that the Prophet pbuh said, "Disgrace! Disgrace! Disgrace!" They said, "Messenger of Allah, who?" He said, "The one who fails his parents or one of them when they are old will enter the Fire." (Bukhari) Module 5 – Circle 2

  21. Dutifulness towards Parents after their Death Abu Usayd (ra) said, "We were with the Messenger pbuh, when a man asked, 'Messenger of Allah, is there any act of dutifulness which I can do for my parents after their death?' He replied, 'Yes. There are four things: Supplication (dua) for them, asking forgiveness for them, fulfilling their pledges, and being generous to friends of theirs. You only have ties of kinship through your parents." (Bukhari) Module 5 – Circle 2
