Dear Friends: When 2011 is ending , all the staff of the Center for Entrepreneurship Development at the Universidad Icesi presents you a very warm Christmas greeting , wishes you and your organization a successful 2012 and shares with you some of the main achievements obtained by the Center in 2011
-Successful completion of the XXI Latin American Congress on Entrepreneurship in Cali. -Publication of the three volumes of the Collection "Desarrollo, Innovacióny CulturaEmpresarial(DICE)", which are available at: http://bibliotecadigital.icesi.edu.co -Coordination and general orientation of the GEM Caribbean´s research team , covering : Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados. It is expected that in 2012 we will integrate : Haiti, Guyana, Surinam, St. Vincent, Antigua, and St. Lucia.
-Participation in the research GEM Colombia 2011 and publication of Colombia 2010 GEM Report. -Integration to the Ibero-American Network of SME´s. -Design of the foundations of an entrepreneurial development public policy for the Valle del Cauca . -OffiHotel, a company founded by a former Icesi´s student (Juan Carlos Galvez) won the first prize as the most innovative SME in the services sector in our state.
-SummerCamp "Vive tu reto empresarial a la velocidad del tren" with a total of 28 participants. -Participation in the Directive Board´s meetings of: International Council for Small Business ICSB, World Association for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (WUSME), Fundaempresa. -Business Development Program for Coomeva Foundation´s entrepreneurial staff(16 members). -Week of the” Young Entrepreneur of Cali”, with a total of 48 participants.
-Entrepreneurship Seminar for University students with an attendance of 36 students. -48 groups of regular undergraduate courses with a total of 1084 students. -1 group of postgraduate courses with a total of 33 students. -Active participation in the Regional Network of Entrepreneurship. -Implementation of four "CompetenciasEmpresariales" on the issues: Bakery Products, Products and / or services for soccer fans, Disability, Luxury markets.
-Development of the program "Promotion of Provincial Productive Enterprise" for 26 Ecuadorian provincial planning officials. -Several visiting professors and NGO´s directives from Latin and North America and Europe were visiting us to know about our developments. -The Business Fair “ExpoIcesi” had 41 business stands. -Design and execution of two seminars on "Outdoor Training" for students of Business Administration.
-Support to several underrepresented and social organizations through the undergraduate students participating in the "CompetenciaEmpresarial". -Development of the different research projects : GEM Colombia 2011, GEM Caribbean 2011, 1984-2004 Alumni Longitudinal Analysis, Creative Industry Entrepreneurs, Social Entrepreneurs in the Caribbean, The dynamic determinants of SME´s in developing economies : a comparison between metropolitan and local areas in Colombia, Factors that facilitate access to financial resources to new businesses, Strategies to build trust in young entrepreneurs, Analysis of internships in their own business and family business from 1998-2008, Entrepreneurial education, Entrepreneurial intention.
-Support for operation of the entrepreneur alumni Network (REDE). -Development of the seminar "New Trends in Entrepreneurial Education." -Active presence at meetings, conferences, seminars, courses in : Africa and Puerto Montt (Chile), Guayaquil and Salinas (Ecuador), Stockholm (Sweden) , Cairo (Egypt), Lima (Peru), Washington and Michigan (USA), Bridgetown (Barbados), Kingston (Jamaica), Bogota, Yopal, Florence, Cartagena and Barranquilla (Colombia).
-Entrepreneurship Training Program for University professors at University of Lagos in Puerto Montt and Osorno. -Conducted two sessions of the exhibition "Entrepreneurs ´world : entrepreneurial perspectives from a creative viewpoint."
Publication: "Entrepreneurial drive", "Analysis of practitioners in their own business and family business", "Factors that facilitate access to financial resources to new businesses", "Create and transform the world : it´s your responsibility"," Doctoral education in the area of family businesses "," Father-daughter succession issues in the Colombian family business context "," The engagement between the needs of education and industry and community "," EI model, a new concept in linking potential successors to family businesses "," Entrepreneurial intentions of Universidad Icesi students”,
” The alliance: collaborating between programmed education and industry "," Competences based entrepreneurial education”, " An intersection between the type of entrepreneurial team and the family business model”, " Entrepreneurship development program for women afrocolombian displaced by political and economical violence ", "Unusual features of innovation in entrepreneurship".
-The Propyme Department conducted the following activities: *Diploma in Export Management the Bakery network, with 28 participating companies. * Development and completion of the project "Business Networking for Export" in the areas of: Auto Parts, Egg Industry, Tourism and Metallurgical industry, in cooperation with PROEXPORT, with total of 37 participating companies.
*Development and completion of the Agribusiness sector program in cooperation with PROEXPORT with 13 participating companies. *Completion of the 1st version, with 20 participating companies and the start of the 2nd version of the program “Vida, Mundo y Empresa” * Consulting services to nine SME´s.
-The Alaya Center conducted the following activities: *Programs in Cali and Bogota to promote the operation and funding of the Alaya Centers with the cooperation of officials of the SBDC at the University of Texas at San Antonio. * Advice to more than 150 entrepreneurs in start-ups and 60 in business improvement. *Training to 43 entrepreneurs in the program "Management Development for micro and small companies"; and more than 30 entrepreneurs in the program “Business Plan”, both of them in association with Bancoldex.
*Advice and support services to 121, emerging and established entrepreneurs, through their own programs the programs in agreement with “Bancoldex”. *Participation of 21 companies in the special programs of: Media Strategy and Advertising Campaigns, Corporate Identity, Strategic Analysis and Accounting in Colombian environment. *Business training for 2200 micro, small and medium entrepreneurs in Buga, Buenaventura, Cali, Cartago, Palmira, Pasto, Popayan, Tulua and Tumaco in the framework of “Bancoldex” program “ aProgresar “.
*Program "Acompañamiento a estudiantes" with a total of 67 students. *Carlos Ramirez with his project Bio360 ° and Rodolfo Hidalgo with his project on renewable fuels , were finalist in the 2011 Ventures, thanks to support from the Alaya center. *Obtaining the quality certification for the consultancy services that Alaya Center provides
-The Start Up Coffee developed the following programs: *Support for students and entrepreneurs in various contests and calls, with the following results: 3 finalists and 1 winner in Ventures 2011, a finalist in TIC´s Americas, a finalist in the second round of investment “DescubraFuturo”, 1 selected in the “Colciencias” 523 financing round , 1 finalist Banco Santander, 5 projects submitted to the “FondoEmprender” . * Advisory services, consulting and mentoring in the for a total of 25 dynamic entrepreneurs supported.
*Four (4) sessions of "Tomando cafe con ....", 2 events "More Profitability", 2 accompanying processes of micro-credit financing, Three angel investors approached our entrepreneurs and there is a very good opportunity for one of them,. *Professor Andrés Felipe Otero, with his company Fair Services received financial support from the national contest “DescubraFuturo” . This will be the first spin-off process at the University Center.
