  2. #2) Jobs by industrial Sectors

  3. #3a) Basic versus Non-Basic Basic activities are those jobs whose salaries are paid with new money entering a community from the outside. In C.P. the DRS factory sells its products to Aerospace, Defence, and Intelligence companies around the world. Thus salaries are paid with “new money” coming into C.P.

  4. #3a) Basic versus Non-Basic Non-Basic activities are those jobs whose salaries are paid with recycled money from inside a community. In C.P. the Tim Horton’s on Lake Ave. sells most of its products to local residents of C.P. Thus salaries of the workers are paid with “recycled money” which was already present in C.P.

  5. #3b) Examples of basic and non-basic jobs A Ford factory worker is basic since the cars will be sold across N. America. A Firefighter is paid through local taxes paid by the residents of the town, city, county etc… A wheat farmer is Saskatchewan is basic since most of the wheat will be sold outside of the local market. The illustrator for this textbook is a basic job since the book is sold throughout Ontario.

  7. #5a) Statistical data and the quaternary sector The rapid growth of the quaternary sector has given agencies such a Statistics Canada a tracking problem since most of the jobs in this sector are closely linked to jobs in the three other sectors.
