  2. What is 4-H? 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H is young people making new friends and memories while preparing to be future leaders.

  3. Who are the Parent Organization? • Youth audience of the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, USDA • In Missouri, University of Missouri Extension and in some places, Lincoln University

  4. Who Supports the Youth? • State and County 4-H Youth Development Staff • Volunteers

  5. Name and Emblem • Most widely recognized symbol of 4-H • Green four-leaf clover • Protected by Congress • Consistent and approved use of the name and emblem

  6. The H’s • Head – Learn how to build knowledge, skills and attitude. • Heart – Talk with other 4-H members and leaders about what is important. • Hands – Have hands-on experiences. • Health – Develop a healthy lifestyle.

  7. Who Can Join? • Everyone!!! • Clover Kids – 5 to 7 years old • 4-H Members – 8 to 19 years old

  8. How does the 4-H program work? • Learn by doing • Experiential model • Participate in an activity (project meeting) • Think about the experience (what did I learn) • Draw conclusions from the experience and apply the knowledge to other things (how can I use this)

  9. Where Do Projects Fit In? • Learn by doing approach • Centered around a specific subject
