Improving SIA Quality:Lessons Learned Partners for Measles Advocacy 7th Annual Meeting
Panel Participants • Robert Perry (CDC) • Casey Boudreau (WHO / AFRO) • Marcy Erskine (CRC) • Lynda Foray (Sierra Leone MoH) • Stefan Hoyer (IFRC) • Monique Petrofsky (CDC)
The Issues • What is “quality” • High coverage • Uniform coverage (across districts) • Few adverse events • Previous SIAs good quality • New round of (follow-up) campaigns • More campaigns integrating ITNs
Recent Challenges • SIA coverage low not uniform in all districts • Outbreaks in year before follow-up SIAs • Recurring operational / technical problems • Bumps in the road to integration • Challenge in bringing all partners to the table • Integrating with OPV vs. measles SIAs • Delay in Kenya measles SIA to allow integration • Ghana measles SIA had low coverage in age groups not included in ITN distribution
