Builders Club at Potsdam Middle School: Fostering Leadership and Service

Builders Club is an afterschool program at Potsdam Middle School for grades 5-8, promoting leadership, character development, and community service. Through student-elected leaders and group activities, students engage in service projects and community events to make a positive impact.

What is Builders Club? • Builders Club is an afterschool program at Potsdam Middle School for students grades 5-8 • It fosters leadership and character development, instills the importance of service, and provides students with volunteer opportunities • It consists of thirty students 4 officers (student elected leaders) Community Mentor-Julie Johnson 8 SLU students

  3. What dID WE do? • We engaged in a variety of leadership and teambuilding activities Pay it Forward 30 second speeches Power poses Poster Making “K-Kids” Letter Writing Anti-Bullying Banners • We helped plan community events Pancake Breakfast Movie Night Lego Competition Food Drive

  4. What did we do? Cont. • We had group discussions about issues facing the middle school students Helped students come up with solutions/actions that can be taken to solve these problems SLU Students did two presentations to inspire students to take action Leadership Kindness Skits (Bullying) • Group discussions were an important aspect of or CBL, it allowed us to collaborate with the middle school students, find out what was happening in their lives and help them find their inner leader to overcome issues they were dealing with
