Level 1 Meeting

This meeting in January 2016 aimed to increase the deceased donor transplant rate and consent rate to improve organ donation statistics in the UK. The meeting discussed categorizations, key statistics, and strategies to achieve the set goals. It highlighted the importance of maximizing donation conversion by sharing data, learning from other hospitals, and identifying ways NHSBT can offer better support. The meeting showcased exceptional achievements and defined eligibility criteria for potential donors. Participants aimed to enhance donation conversion from potential donors and maintain the regional leadership status.

  10. New 2016 Categorisation of Donation Activity by Level Potential donor after brainstem death (DBD) are defined as patients who have neurological death suspected by meeting all of the following criteria: apnoea, coma from known aetiology and unresponsive, ventilated, fixed pupils. Excluding those for whom cardiac arrest occurred despite resuscitation, brain stem reflexes returned, and neonates less than 2 months post term. Eligible donors after circulatory death (DCD) are defined as patients who had treatment withdrawn and death was anticipated within four hours, with no absolute medical contraindications to solid organ donation.
