Fund raising escalated ($12M)
Negotiations initiated between DC and Baltimore for a joint bid Knise former insurance executive (now that again)
Knise like a one-man band in organizing effort and soliciting funds
$12M was NOT upfront money but amortized over the length of the bid and with many strings attached.
Result: always lean on funds
A lot of consternation that Baltimore also interested in bidding

Initial US bids submitted to USOC
Bids included: DC, SF, NY, LA, Tampa-Orlando, Houston, Dallas, Cincinnati
Our branch of ACS was then part of Lockheed-Martin

Originally 12 cities were interested but 8 bids submitted.
Lots of conflict among some cities to achieve these 8 bidding groups
Dallas, Arlington, and Fort Worth
Cincinnati terrific funding problems
Tampa appended Orlando and argued they were close together and would have a hiug
NY and NJ went at it
SF arced from south of San Jose to Sacramento
We went from Baltimore to VA horse country (plus Frostburrg) Our branch of ACS was then part of Lockheed-Martin
