Author’s Purpose: American fast food commercialism has a dramatic and revolutionary effect not only on diet and health, but popular culture and daily life. The author’s purpose in writing this book is to expose how the fast-food industry came to be and to explain in chronological order the changes, good and bad, that took place. The daily life of Americans changed with the introduction of cars. Jesse G. Kirby describes this change “People with cars are so lazy they don’t want to get out of them to eat!” Fast Food restaurants used carhops who “often wore short skirts and dressed up like cowgirls, majorettes, Scottish lasses in kilts.” This was a lure for teenage boys thus changing the popular culture. These drive-in restaurants “quickly became popular hangouts for teenage boys.” The fast food industry has made a lasting effect on many peoples health throughout its existence. Fast has always been at a minimal cost. “The low price of a fast food hamburger does not reflect its real cost- and should”.
