Speech marks are used for marking out where someone has spoken. For example, “Where is the fat man?” asked Charlie. “The fat man went to the toilet,“ answeredMark. Notice that ‘asked Charlie’ and ‘answered Mark’ is not part of the speech!
Quotation Marks • Quotation Marks are only used when a text has been copied exactly . They are particularly useful for supporting your answers in comprehensions. • For example: • Comprehension qn: What is the weather like in the passage? • Answer: The weather is very hot. “The sun was beating down.”
