Benton Community Schools Recommendations for Spanish Enrollment: 1. All Spanish classes are elective courses. 2. Attendance is a vital part of Spanish success. 3. We recommend one Spanish course per year for better results, but try to schedule 1 & 2 as close together as possible and 3 & 4 as close together as possible. • If planning to take a college World Language exam, it may be a good idea to schedule Spanish your senior year. 5. If you are planning to take Kirkwood Intermediate Spanish I & II try to double up on Spanish 3 & 4 your junior year so you will have time your senior year to complete this course.
Why would you want to take college level Spanish? If you excelled at Spanish in High School, you may want to major or minor in Spanish to help with career possibilities. If you want to earn college credit while still in high school. If you might live in a Spanish speaking country, community, or visit a place that speaks Spanish on a regular basis. If you want to help prepare yourself for the college level classes you might take in the future.
CLEP Testvs.College Spanish • Benton Community pays tuition and books for any student who receives a passing grade in the class • CLEP test is a test that you must pay to take to try and receive college credit • Intermediate Spanish I is 4 college credits in Spanish • Credit is not guaranteed, be rather awarded based on test scores • Intermediate Spanish II is 4 college credits in Spanish • Credit may transfer in various amounts of elective credits based on each college • 4 or 8 Credits will transfer to most colleges through Kirkwood
