  2. The fleet • The first voyage the made had a total of 317 ships • With a crew of about 28,000 • There are records of 7 voyages • the last 2 had the records destroyed

The commander • he was named Zheng he  • born in 1371 • when he was 11 he was captured by the Ming • He eventually became an advisor for the Yongle emperor • In 1424 the Yongle emperor died and his successor the hongxi emperor decided to stop the voyages • He made one more voyage under the Xuande emperor but then died on the return journey

  4. The ships • A junk is a traditional name for a Chinese boat • Many different types of ships • Covered swoopers: were not fighting ships and were fast • Combat junks: made for fighting and had no cover on roofs • Sea hawks: were designed like a bird so ships would never tip

  5. The end of the ships • They were all burned and destroyed • Even some records of the voyages were destroyed • After voyages were abandoned europe started colonizing regions • China left the chance to further their empire around the world
