What is HOSA? • A Co-Curricular, Student Led organization that is designed to: • Further develop knowledge and skills relating to the Health Care Industry • Allow students to become leaders and team players among their peers and in society • Provide an opportunity for students to compete at the Area, State, and National levels
What is HOSA? • Afford students the opportunity to investigate careers pathways and healthcare / medical colleges • An avenue for community service • A welcoming place to develop friendships with other PHS Spartans • An enhancement to college application letters • A possible source for college scholarship money • A great group of students!
Anticipated Costs for HOSA • (1st Semester due October 28) • $30HOSA affiliation Dues • $5OnlineTesting Fee per event tested (if online) • (2nd Semester due January 16, 2015) • $25 Area Competition (may work concession stand to earn $ per hour and pay down this fee) • $15 HOSA Tee shirt (optional)
SkillsUSA • May Do Either HOSA orSkillsUSA • May Do Both • SkillsUSA dues are separate though and are $30 also due October 28 • Cash pay must be in sealed envelope with Student Name, ID #, and chosen event • Check Pay must include Student name, Parent TDL, Parent Cell #, and Parent Driver’s License #
National Affiliation Deadline • To compete, National and State HOSA costs $30. • The breakdown is: $15for National, $10 for State, $5 for PHS Chapter • PHS Chapter dues are used to benefit the PHS HOSA Chapter for various supplies needed throughout the year
Fundraising • We have an opportunity to work a few of the concession stands this year. As a HOSA member, you are expected to sign up for at least one game. • Must be at least 16 years old to work inside stand. • Younger may help in collecting tips. • We need adults!!! Ask your parents and guardians! • If you are involved in the current sport season, cheerleader, golden grace, football, band etc. and cannot help, you are excused from this requirement. • Otherwise, you must at least help once! • We receive 10% of earnings from the games. Please come help! :) • You will receive points for the hours you work which will pay down your fees!
Fall Leadership Conference • October 4 • @ Carl Wunsche
HOSA Week • Officers and Ms. Clark will decide what week. • TBA
Online Testing • Online Testing Registration, and Payment Deadline is November 12. • $5 per event • Ms. Herr the librarian will administer in PHS LMC • Must proceed from online to go to Area.(Only one individual or team may sign up for a specific event. See hosa.org for details)
Online Testing @ PHS LMC • December 8, 9, 10 during school day. • An assigned time will be issued to take test in library.
Area Competition • February 13 & 14, 2015 in Kingwood HS
State Competition • April 9-11, in Dallas, TX.
National Competition • June 24-27 in California
Join SkillsUSA! • [Soon-to-be-elected] Co-Officers; you should be signing up for this. • Elected officers will be attending the SkillsUSA meeting on Tuesday 9/16 • skillsusatx.org
Officer Elections • We will have 4 Senior Co-Officers and 3 Junior Co-Officers. (Ms. Clark will have final say) • Application date before Sunday 9/14 • aclark@newcaneyisd.org • After officers are elected, they will run the meetings and act as a communications liaison. • Officers set tone, encourage participation, foster a commitment to humanitarian service, and lead by example.
