  1. The FLAMINGOS Extragalactic Survey Richard Elston Anthony Gonzalez Mike Brown (NOAO) Yen-Ting Lin (Illinois) Arjun Dey (NOAO) Eric McKenzie (Florida) Mark Dickinson (NOAO) Joe Mohr (Illinois) Peter Eisenhardt (JPL) Nick Raines (Florida) Buell Jannuzi (NOAO) Adam Stanford (IGPP/Davis) Daniel Stern (JPL/Caltech)

  2. The FLAMINGOS Extragalactic Survey Target Area: 10 deg2 (90 pointings) Target Depth: Ks=20.5, J=22 (Vega) Location: Both NDWFS regions KPNO 2m + FLAMINGOS NOAO Large Survey Program Final observations: October 2004

  3. Motivation Near-infrared observations provide unique leverage. Galaxy Evolution Star Formation History Mass Accretion History Correlation Function at z=1-2 Galaxy Cluster Evolution Statistical Cluster Sample at z=1-2 Evolution of Cluster Galaxies Cosmological Parameters

  6. M82 (http://sings.stsci.edu) z=2

  7. Northern Field (Bootes) 4.65 deg2 complete VLA SIRTF NDWFS GALEX Chandra

  8. Southern Field (Cetus) 2.11 deg2 complete, 14 nights remaining in Fall 2004 FIRST, SIRTF, NDWFS, GALEX, XMM

  9. Survey Status • Have imaged 6.8 sq. degrees with 14 nights remaining • Averaging ~50% usable nights so far • Expect to have ~8-8.5 sq. degrees by end of 2004 • Bootes: 4.65 sq. deg • Cetus: ~3.5-4 sq. deg • Data >80% reduced • Initial series of papers planned for summer/fall

  10. Data Products and Data Release • J & Ks merged photometric catalog • SExtractor output • Subarcsecond astrometry • Merged with NDWFS catalog Bootes data release planned for late 2004 Cetus data release planned for spring 2005

  11. The FLAMINGOS Extragalactic Survey: First High-Redshift Cluster Candidates • Preliminary detection using wavelets for J-Ks=1.75-2.5 • Will eventually utilize photo-z’s (BVIJKs)

  12. Summary • The FLAMINGOS Extragalactic Survey is almost complete! • Last observations in fall 2004 • Final area ~8-8.5 deg2 • Complete Bootes data release by late 2004 • Matched J & Ks catalogs • Plan to also release merged catalogs with NDWFS • Key element of the large multiwavelength effort in NDWFS
