French Door Set Dimensions • Directions: • Toggle to Front View • Use Standard Primitives to model one door according to the dimensions provided. • Make the glass a box that fits the space, ¼” thick. • Make the wood 2” thick. • Clone the first door
French Door Set Dimensions • Directions: • After drawing your shapes, place the glass on a separate layer from the frame. • Turn off the glass layer. • Next, go to “Compound Objects.” • Select one element of your door frame, and click “Boolean.” • A menu will pop up that allows you to Union (combine) 3D elements. • At the bottom of the panel, click Union • Then choose “Pick operand B” • Continue adding the objects until your door frame is completely Unioned together. • Be careful not to Union the glass
French Door Door Knob • Directions: • Now, create the chamfered cylinder • Go to Extended Primitives> ChamfCyl • Draw a rough-in shape, and then type in the parameters listed below: • Radius: 0'1 16/32 • Height: 0'0 24/32“ • Fillet: 0'0 7/32" The parameters will appear when you begin to draw.
French Door Door Knob • Directions: • Next Draw an Oil Tank • Go to Extended Primitives> OilTank • Draw a rough-in shape, and then type in the parameters listed below: • Radius: 0'1" • Height: 0'2" • Fillet: 0'0 24/32"
French Door Door Knob • Directions: • Next Click the Modify tab • Find the box that says “Modify List” • Click on the arrow, and select “squeeze” • A parameter menu will appear.
French Door Door Knob • Directions: • In the Radial Squeeze section, type 2.0 • The shape of the door knob will change as shown at left.
French Door Set Door Knob • Directions: • Now go back to the Standard Primitive Menu • Select Cylinder • Rough-in a cylinder and then type the following parameters: • Radius: 0'0 16/32“ • Height: 0'0 24/32“
French Door Set Door Knob • Directions: • Move the shapes together so that they line up as shown. • The door knob should be pushed into the cylinder until the radius of each is lined up. • See the point of connection at left
French Door Set Door Knob Directions: Now, Create a standard primitive box that has the following parameters: Length: 0'0 16/32“ Width: 0'0 2/32“ Height: 0'1“ You may want to place the item on a new layer and assign a different color so you can see it more effectively. Line up the box where the key hole would be.
French Door Set Door Knob • Directions: • On the create toolbar, choose Compound Objects.” • Make sure the doorknob is selected. • Then click “Boolean” • At the bottom of the menu, click “Subtraction (A-B).” • Next, select “Pick Operand B” • Click on the Keyhole box you created. • It will leave a hole in the doorknob for a keyhole. • If you wanted to make the keyhole more jagged, you could use a more complex shape (instead of just a box) to subtract. • In the next lesson, we will apply materials to our door and door knob.
Grading Rubric The file must be saved as “French Doors.”
