What is Six Sigma? • Six Sigma is a set of practices used to systematically improve processes by eliminating defects. • Method of improving Key Process. • A continuous philosophy used for improvement. • The term "Six Sigma" refers to the ability of highly capable processes to produce output within specification. • An organized process, structured for analysis of data.
Who invented Six Sigma? • Bill Smith is known as the father of Six Sigma. • "Motorola invented Six Sigma, registered and trademarked it and have learned a great deal about it over the last 15 years. • He became the first winner of Malcolm Baldridge quality award in 1988. • Companies like Amazon.com, Bank of America, Ford, Dupont, Honeywell international, US Navy, Us Army, Canada Post & many more are using Six Sigma. • Eventually Six Sigma evolved and applied to other non manufacturing processes. • Now a days you can apply Six Sigma to many fields such as Services, Medical and Insurance Procedures, Call Centers.
When to use Six Sigma? • Problems are faced at common factor and no solution is been seen. • When other problem solving methods fail. • In any complex situation where we find no quality work done. • Loss of Business.

How does Six Sigma Works? • 3 level of belts – based on the level of competence in understanding and applying related tools. • Green Belt – Basic analytical tools, work on less complex projects • Black Belt – Emphasis on application and analysis, they work project with help from green belts. • Master Black Belt – Understands applications and statistical theory behind application. • Train other belts. • Lead project reviews • Definition of these 3 belts can differ from organisation to organisation.
