RSRD² is a Sector Tool that makes freight car operation more efficient • RSRD²? = rolling stock reference database + mileage interface • Keepers are an integrated part of European freight rail operations • Keepers’ vehicles are migrating like nomads • (Private) Keepers and their chosen ECMs have enhanced duties to comply with • UIP has chosen to develop a comprehensive operational tool for freight car data exchange: RSRD²
RSRD² is a Sector Tool that makes freight car operation more efficient • UIP thinks the tool is well done and can serve all keepers. • RSRD² is fulfilling the mandatory TAF TSI obligations. • We have a common interest: to make freight car operation more efficient/to increase the modal share of rail in freight. • RSRD² serves to execute existing obligations of all fleet managers/asset managers.
RSRD² is a fully operational real time Data Base with 24/7 accessibility • RSRD² is an operational Data Base. • RSRD² data content will be built around the needs of the users • Authorization for data access can be customized by the keeper (time window/car number/data scope/party) • RSRD² data are accurate and up to date and in the direct ownership/liability of the keeper and his ECM. • RSRD² is CI compliant, modern, efficient, cheap, transparent, confidential and open to modification.

UIP developed the RSRD² system with the funding support of six major private wagon keepers
RSRD² has been designed as standardised data exchange platform for wagon keepers • Comprehensive data set, covering national vehicle register data, GCU data, ECM data, etc. • Provision of technical data (wagon design, load limits, brake and wheel set information) and maintenance due dates. Provision of wagon data • Central Interface to collect mileage data from several sources (RUs). • Provision of consistent mileage data to wagon keepers in support of their vehicle maintenance and safety agenda. Collection & processing of mileage data
RSRD² encompasses a comprehensive set of administrative, design and maintenance data 1. Administration 2. Technical Design 3. Maintenance Wagon identification, registration, authorisation and certification information Wagon design and interoperability information required for operation Inspection and overhaul cycle and due date information
Keepers require detailed mileage information on single trip level from RUs to verify data quality and consistency • GCU contract: delivery of mileage by RUs • Access to wagon data for free/in return mileage delivery for free into RSRD² • RSRD² central mileage data platform • Collection from various RUs • Sorting and allocating • Delivery to respective keeper • Linking of data to a mileage chain? • Detection of gaps and overlaps? RSRD² Mileage messages

Reliability and service culture are at the top priority list of EC and freight customers Europe needs and deserves better Rail Freight Services. We need better quality andreliability. SiimKallas- EC Commission V.P. for Transport -Sept 17 2010 Because of this magnitude of the costs tied up in the supply chain, shippers now require greater reliabilityand better performance… European Shippers Council - Web Site Support …building up a new service culture through the evolution and modernization of the freight railways. RSRD² materially support the development of a positive image of reliable rail service. • available at the tip of a finger • user friendly • highdata quality and data volume in “real time” RSRD2 improves the efficient exchange of data and reduces transaction costs for RUs
RSRD² can easily assume the GCU DB function to simplify handling of RUs and keeper’s obligations Helps RU to identify GCU wagon and responsible keeper Facilitates handling of damages by RUs (GCU Chapter IV) Central repository for GCU Art. 15: information from RU to keepers RSRD² streamlines interfaces and improves GCU application
RSRD² provides all necessary characteristics to be accepted by the sector as operational tool
RSRD² offers significant advantages to RU for their keeper function and obligations Value for money Immediately available TAF TSI compliant Flexible and adaptive RSRD² as central platform for a common and strong sector positioning on data exchange
